Note: DocZilla 2.7pre1 Available

July 8, 2005

It has been almost two years since the first official release of DocZilla, 1.0, was released. Since June 2003, Citec has enjoyed the power of DocZilla 1.0 in building a wide range of SGML/XML applications on top of it, and developed more high-end features on the way.

Now it's time to publish all the hard work done since the 1.0 version: we're proud to release a new version of the DocZilla Browser. The latest version 2.7pre1 highlights as follows:

  • Mozilla version 1.7.8: DocZilla is now ported to the latest stable Mozilla engine for speed, new features and more mature codebase.
  • New SGML parser OpenSP 1.5.1: DocZilla 2.7 now integrates OpenSP 1.5.1, the de-facto SGML parser of the industry. This means DocZilla is now a validating SGML/XML browser.
  • DocZilla Search Server: Transparent access to DocZilla Search index files over a TCP/IP network. All DocZilla versions support the client side of the network. The server application itself is sold as a separate add-on.
  • User hyperlinks: DocZilla 2.7 users can now maintain a database of their own hyperlinks, bringing personal navigation to a new level in a set of SGML/XML documents.
  • CGM image plugin: DocZilla has built-in support for the SDI CGM Reader plugin which now comes bundled with DocZilla.
  • Extended Table of Contents: TOCs can now have multiple columns, effectively resulting in a TOC matrix. Also, each cell in the TOC tree now supports more than one URL targets.

This is the first PRE-release of the DocZilla 2.7 final. It is mostly the same as the final version will be, but small changes and fixes can be expected in the near future. We wanted to get on the "release early, release often" train with 2.7 and invite everyone to try out our new version.

Other files:

  • ssh2css.exe - Multidoc Pro Style Sheet to CSS converter

Note that the ssh2css.exe is merely a mechanical transformation between two different style languages with the source language (SSH) being years older than the destination language (CSS). It is likely that the resulting CSS stylesheet requires hand-crafting and tuning until a desirable outlook and performance level is achieved.
